1. SEMS/China Scholarship Council (CSC) PhD studentships for entry in September 2021

1 China Scholarship Council (CSC) PhD studentships for entry in September 2021. Under the scheme, Queen Mary will provide scholarships to cover all tuition fees, whilst the CSC will provide living expenses and one return flight ticket to successful applicants.


Project title: AI-assisted Multi-Purpose Mobile Manipulation Robots for Hospital Ward Applications
The project will focus on autonomous mobile robots with integrated manipulators for performing a set of hospital ward related tasks. The proposed project will be centred on developing various types of customized robotic grippers capable of dextrous grasping and autonomous wheeled mobile platforms which can help patients become more independent. This will further accelerate autonomy with complex tasks assisted by a human operator through a VR interface.

Candidates will need to demonstrate their proficiency in English equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in each of the other test components).

Candidates will need to submit a formal online application to the university by 
27 January 2021.

If successful in securing an offer from QMUL, candidates will then need to apply to the CSC for approval and to confirm funding.

2. CONACyT PhD studentships for 2021/22 entry

The School of Engineering and Materials Science will be supporting a generous number of CONACyT PhD studentships for Mexican students wishing to commence studies from academic year 2021/22.  Here are two research projects available from the Robotic Systems Group.

 Swarm UAVs: Networked Multirotor System for Precision Agriculture

Computational Design of Reconfigurable Lower-Limb Rehabilitation Exoskeleton Robots

The programme application form includes:

  1. A section titled ‘Funding’, please state you plan to fund your studies via the "CONACyT" scheme.
  2. A section titled ‘Research Degree Programmes - Additional Questions’, please include the project reference (as per the project table) for the project you wish to apply to as well as the name of the project Supervisor, to associate your application with that studentship opportunity. If you are interested in being considered for more than one studentship project you must list each project’s reference in order of preference (mulitple applications are not necessary).
