Expertise: I am currently involved in an MRC-funded project aimed at identifying modifiable pathways to reduce preterm births in a region of sub-Saharan Africa, where there is a high prevalence of HIV among pregnant women. Specifically, I am using 3D in vitro models of the fetal membrane to investigate how inflammatory and microbial challenges, associated with preterm birth and HIV, affect fetal membrane function at both the cellular and molecular levels.
