Brief Biography
Andrew has had a diverse career spanning both leading academic institutions as well as senior roles in a wide range of industrial sectors. He currently holds the position of Reader within the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London and Director (industry) Centre for Research in Engineering and Materials Education. His main teaching and administrative responsibilities focus on the schools' programmes in Xi'an, China.
Before joining QMUL Andrew led the Materials, Metallurgy, Corrosion, Integrity and Failure Investigation teams for Wood plc across Asia. Wood is one of the largest engineering service companies in the world and an integral part of the energy sector. Prior to joining Wood Andrew was the Head of the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Engineering, Director of Studies and Associate Professor for the University of Nottingham. During his time with the University Andrew helped build the Universities Malaysian Campus and develop its overseas teaching operations.
Andrew has held a range of other positions such as: A company director, Senior Research Engineering with A-Star in Singapore, Senior Materials Ageing Specialist for Lockheed Martin and the MOD , Lecturer at the Open University and UNISIM, Visiting Senior Research Fellow at The University of Surrey and External Examiner at Robert Gordon and De Montfort Universities.
Andrew's teaching and research interests cover two broad areas: 1) The Performance of Materials 2) Education and Engineering Management. Andrew is an active member of several learned societies.
