Research Overview

Interests

Dr Abubakar Haruna is a PhD graduate in Chemical Engineering and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA), with over eight years of academic experience. My passion lies in front-line teaching, learning, and research in thermochemical and thermo-catalytic conversion of waste oils and biomass into solid, liquid, and gas biofuels. Possess significant experimental and analytical laboratory experience using Grey-King pyrolysis apparatus, tube furnace, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), GC-FID, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Leco CHNS elemental analysis, XRD, SEM, FTIR, BET, BJH, SIMDIS, and MATLAB. Others are ASPEN Plus/Hysys for chemical process design simulation, and SPRINT and STAR for heat integration and site utility design simulation and optimisation, including boilers, steam and gas turbines for power generation. I also have practical experience as a process engineer at Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, where I monitored flow meters to detect potential issues in the petrochemical plant during Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) production.
