Research Impact
Student Partnerships
Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research (QMCUR)
Dr Giuseppe Viola led the establishment of the Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research to support undergraduate student being involved in research activities, promoting inquiry-based education and co-creation. The centre is currently hosting students from first and second year of all science and engineering programmes running in SEMS, with a notable impact on their educational journey.
Queen Mary Academy Case Studies
Dr Folashade A. Taiwo's interview based on a Westfield funded project to "enable students to support their peers by building better learning resources"
Dr Maria Romero-Gonzalez's interview based on a Westfield funded project to "help students hear and benefit from feedback"
Dr Rehan Shah developed a case study on community-based placements, this project investigates their framework, impact and outlook through co-creation with students as part of a collaborative study between QMUL and UCL.
Dr Rehan Shah and Professor Claudia Garetto (School of Mathematical Sciences) developed a case study detailing their on-going project on "Making diversity count: empowering students through co-creation of inclusive STEM curricula"
Educational Toolkits
QMUL Assessment Toolkit
Dr Maria Romero-Gonzalez co-led (with Dr Steph Fuller, Queen Mary Academy) the development of the QMUL Assessment Toolkit.
QMUL Feedback Toolkit
Dr Maria Romero-Gonzalez led on the development of the QMUL Feedback Toolkit.
Engineering Professors Council toolkit
Dr Rehan Shah contributed a guidance article "How can sustainability be integrated in engineering modules through mathematics content?" as part of the EPC Sustainability Toolkit.
Educational Resources
QMUL Inclusive Curriculum and Educational Practice
Centre members have contributed to the QMUL Guide to Inclusive Curriculum and Educational Practice as part of the QMUL Inclusive Curriculum Workstream.
Professional Skills Logbook
Faith Nightingale has developed a case study on students using an engineering logbook to track and record their professional development. This project has been published on the IOM3 website as well as in their magazine Materials World to give a real world example of how professional skills can be recognised and documented to develop students' future careers.
SEMS EDI Educational resources
The EDI educational resources showcase a series of outputs from various ongoing scholarship research projects within SEMS that focus on addressing prominent EDI issues as part of the Queen Mary Principles of Inclusive Curriculum.
