3-strike Policy

Technical staff reserve the right to revoke access to the Makerspace in the event of unsafe behaviour, abuse towards staff or repeated breaches of the Rules & Expectations. Failure to follow the Makerspace Rules & Expectations is subject to the 3-strike policy:

  • Strike 1 – Verbal warning
    • A verbal warning will be given from the Technician on duty
    • You will be given a chance to correct the infringement based on the advice given by the Technician.
    • Repeated verbal warnings or continuous breach of the rules will result in a strike.
    • Your name and ID number will be recorded, and a note made on your technical profile.
    • Depending on the extent of the infringement, refusal to follow the rules or refusal to give information, may escalate to a strike 2 offence.
  • Strike 2 – Written warning
    • You will be informed of your second strike verbally by the technician on duty.
    • A written warning will be sent to your email address, with the Technical Facilities manager, Workshop manager and Academic project lead being notified of the second-strike offence.
    • Your name and ID number will be recorded, and a second note will be made on your technical profile.
    • Depending on the extent of the infringement, refusal to follow the rules or refusal to give details, this may escalate to a strike 3 offence.
    • You will be asked to leave the Makerspace area.
  • Strike 3 – Disciplinary action
    • You will be informed of your third strike verbally by the technician on duty.
    • A written warning will be sent to your email address, with the Technical Facilities manager, Workshop manager, Academic project lead and Head of School being notified of the Third-strike offence.
    • Your name and ID number will be recorded, and a third note will be made on your technical profile.
    • Your access will be removed, and you will be banned from using the Makerspace area until a disciplinary meeting has been conducted.
    • You will be required to undergo the basic health and safety training courses again and any additional inductions or workshop orientations to re-gain access to the Makerspace.

Thank you for your cooperation.
