3-strike Policy
Technical staff reserve the right to revoke access to the Makerspace in the event of unsafe behavior, abuse towards staff or repeated breaches of the Rules & Expectations. Failure to follow the Makerspace Rules & Expectations is subject to the 3-strike policy detailed below:
Warnings
- You will be given a chance to correct any infringement based on the advice given by the Technician.
- Failure to do so or follow the technician instructions will result in a strike.
- Repeated warnings or continuous breaches of the “Makerspace Rules & Expectations” will result in a strike.
Strike 1 – Verbal
- You will be verbally informed if a strike 1 event has occurred.
- Your name and ID number will be recorded, and a note made on your technical profile.
- Strike 1’s will stay on your profile for at least one semester.
- Multiple strike 1’s will accumulate into a strike 2
- Depending on the extent of the infringement, refusal to follow the rules or refusal to give information, may escalate to a strike 2 offence.
Strike 2 – Written
- You will be verbally informed if a second strike event has occurred.
- Your name and ID number will be recorded, and a second note will be made on your technical profile.
- A written warning will be sent to your email address, with the Technical Facilities manager, Workshop manager and your academic project lead being notified of the second-strike offence.
- Depending on the extent of the infringement, refusal to follow the rules or refusal to give details, this may escalate to a strike 3 offence.
- A strike 2 offence will result in you being asked to leave the Makerspace area and banned for up to 24hrs (Makerspace technician’s discretion)
Strike 3 – Disciplinary action
- You will be verbally informed if a third strike event has occurred.
- Your name and ID number will be recorded, and a third note will be made on your technical profile.
- A written warning will be sent to your email address, with the Technical Facilities manager, Workshop manager, academic project lead and the Head of School or relevant senior manager being notified of the Third-strike offence.
- Your access will be removed, and you will be banned from using the Makerspace area until a disciplinary meeting has been conducted.
- You will be required to undergo the basic health and safety training courses again and any additional inductions or workshop orientations to re-gain access to the Makerspace (Treated as a brand new user).
