CONACyT (Mexico) Studentships for entry in 2020/21

Description

The School of Engineering and Materials Science is pleased to announce it will be supporting a generous number of CONACyT PhD studentships for Mexican students wishing to commence studies from academic year 2020/2021.

Studentship applicants must be eligible to apply to the CONACyT scholarship scheme. There are multiple CONACyT calls each spring and summer and they vary by state. Please check the CONACyT webpages regularly for updates: http://www.conacyt.gob.mx/ .

Under the scheme, CONACyT will contribute 300,000MX Pesos towards scholars tuition fees each year and the School will waive the remaining fee.  CONACyT pay scholars a stipend towards living costs of £880 (or £1,073 for married scholars) per month. This may be supplemented by funding from Fiderh or Funed as typically students will need £1300/month to live in London.

Application Method
If you are able to identify a listed project listed that matches with your own research interests, the next step is to complete the online application process to the appropriate Engineering PhD programme, please click on the programme link included in the projects table.  

The programme application form includes:
1. A section titled ‘Funding’, please state you plan to fund your studies via the "CONACyT" scheme.
2. A section titled ‘Research Degree Programmes - Additional Questions’, please include the project reference (as per the project table) for the project you wish to apply to as well as the name of the project Supervisor, to associate your application with that studentship opportunity. If you are interested in being considered for more than one studentship project you must list each project’s reference in order of preference (mulitple applications are not necessary).

Candidates will need to demonstrate their proficiency in English equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in each of the other test components). If successful in securing an offer from QMUL, candidates will need to apply to CONACyT to secure a scholarship.

Eligibility

  • The minimum requirement for this studentship opportunity is a good honours degree (minimum 2(i) honours or equivalent) or MSc/MRes in a relevant discipline.
  • If English is not your first language, you will require a valid English certificate equivalent to IELTS 6.5+ overall with a minimum score of 6.0 in Writing and 5.5 in all sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking).
  • Candidates are expected to start in (Semester ).
  • SEMS and Principal-funded studentships: this studentship arrangement covers home tuition fees and provides an annual stipend for up to three years (currently set at the 2023/24 stipend rate of £20,622 pa)
  • Note that Queen Mary Research Studentships cover home-rated tuition fees only (See: www.welfare.qmul.ac.uk/money/feestatus/ for details)
  • Overseas applicants would be required to meet the difference between home and international tuition fees
