Investigation of Condensation and Boiling Heat Transfer in Complex Geometries

Supervisor: Huasheng WANG
Apply by:25 May 2018

Description

Condensers and evaporators are key components of many thermal systems in a wide range of industrial applications. Condensers and evaporators employing enhanced geometries such as microchannel have clearly demonstrated the effectiveness resulting in four times smaller and with efficiencies 10-20% higher than earlier technologies. The geometries achievable with conventional manufacturing techniques are limited. This project will investigate condensation and boiling heat transfer in complex geometries made using additive manufacturing (AM) method. The project is jointly funded by HiETA Technologies and Queen Mary University of London. The research work involves measurement, computational simulation and theoretical analysis and will be performed at Queen Mary University of London. HiETA will use its expertise in AM and thermal management to support the project and to provide complex geometries for the experimental work. The project will explore new technologies to make novel compact, lightweight heat exchangers and to develop accurate, reliable and robust tools for design and optimisation of heat exchangers for a wide range of applications.
