SEMS Seminar Series: Prof. Royston Jones, Altair

SEMS Seminar Series: Prof. Royston Jones, Altair

Date: Thursday 2 November 2023 15:00 - 16:00

Location: G.O. Jones: UG1

We are delighted to invite you to attend a talk by Prof. Royston Jones from Altair company as part of SEMS seminar series.

This talk will be entitled “Asking the Next Evolution of Twins to Radically Shape Our Future” which explores advances in the application of digital twin technology.

The presentation will commence with a historical perspective on the rises of simulation technology in the product development process. It will provide industrial examples (e.g. Airbus, Ferrari etc.) relating to optimization technology and how it is increasingly fundamental to injecting innovation into design. The concept of the ‘Digital Twin’ will be introduced and illustrated via a small high powered battery module used in both automotive and aerospace. Finally, the availability of high volumes of data will be discussed and how this facilitates different types of optimization technologies.

Dr. Royston Jones is the Global Head of Automotive at Altair and Visiting Professor in the School of Engineering & Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London. For over thirty years, Dr Jones has been involved in the application of CAE methods to produce design innovation. One of his many passions is leading the development of cutting-edge solutions for e-mobility, including methodologies to significantly reduce vehicle weight, create more efficient e-motors and creating batteries optimized for performance at the cell, module and pack levels.

The seminar will be in person at G.O. Jones: UG1 on Thursday 2nd Nov 2023 at 15:00 - 16:00. This will be followed by a network event at G.O. foyer where food and drinks are served.

We look forward to seeing you all there.
