PhD Research Studentships

QMUL and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan studentships for entry in September 2021

Supervisor: Nader KARIMI
Apply by:7 September 2021

Description

The School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS) has one remaining QMUL / HEC studentship for entry in September 2021 for Dr Nader Karimi.

The jointly funded studentship will cover tuition fees and new scholars will receive £1,015/month stipend from HEC to contribute towards living costs. Queen Mary waives the tuition fee and the HEC provide the stipend.  Please note that this stipend will not cover the scholar’s living costs in full and does not meet the level of financial support necessary to secure a UK visa. The scholar will therefore need to secure additional funding in order to be able to take up their studies at Queen Mary. For further details of the requirements set out by UK Visas and Immigration, please see –https://www.welfare.qmul.ac.uk/student-advice-guides/applying-for-student-immigration-permission/

Note that under the terms of this studentship, only applicants who have already successfully secured a HEC PhD Scholarship are eligible to apply to study on the PhD programmes with the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London.

Step 1 – HEC Pakistan Funding Application

Candidates must first apply to the HEC Pakistan under their 90% Overseas Scholarship Scheme or the HEC Faculty Development Programme.

The HEC Pakistan have several calls for applications throughout the year, so please check their website for the details of the dates and subject criteria for each call.

SEMS are happy to support candidates with their research proposals and interested applicants should contact their prospective academic supervisor listed above.

The HEC set out their own selection criteria, assessing candidates both on their merit and the relevance of their project to the current research and development needs of Pakistan. Full details of these criteria and the application process are available on the HEC website:

Step 2 - QMUL PhD Application
(Please only proceed if you have been short-listed for an HEC Pakistan PhD Studentship for study under the category of Engineering and Materials Science)

Before applying you need to ensure the School has the expertise to supervise your research. To do this, you should visit the School research web pages and review individual staff’s research interests: https://www.sems.qmul.ac.uk/research/

If you are able to identify a match with your own research interests, the next step is to complete the online application process to an appropriate Engineering or Materials PhD programme:

Research degrees in Engineering

Research degrees in Materials

Please remember to include a reference to the "QMUL / HEC NK Studentship" and also the name of the SEMS Supervisor to associate your application with this scheme.

Applicants are required to provide confirmation of their HEC PhD Scholarship and also to provide a realistic plan to secure sufficient funding for the duration of the PhD programme.  On your application, please be sure to include details of how you intend to secure sufficient funding to complete the research programme and writing up process (£1,265 GBP per month, for a minimum duration of 36 months).
