Asad completed a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2016, and is now a Biomedical Engineer and the Director of Pakistan's first incubator company using AI to revolutionise care for infants. This year, he won the British Council's Study UK Alumni Award for Business and Innovation.

'Saving lives'

As well as being a Biomedical Engineer with Ramsay Healthcare, working across Australia and Europe, Asad founded his own company to improve care for the tiniest babies in his home country of Pakistan. Kangaroo Care AI appeared on Shark Tank Pakistan - the Pakistani version of Dragons' Den - where they impressed the investors so much, they secured a deal from all of them.

"I am now the co-founder and director of Kangaroo Care AI, manufacturers of AI-based infant incubators in Pakistan. We are helping to control the mortality rate of infants in Pakistan and other low and middle income countries. Our products offer cost efficiency and are easy to use," said Asad.

"Founding this company has been my biggest achievement. We are serving humanity through this project - it is lifesaving equipment for infants. At Queen Mary I acquired skills which directly led to success in my career."

'Changed my perspective'

"The time that I spent studying at Queen Mary changed my perspective and thinking about my life. I learnt leadership skills, character building and developed the idea for my startup whilst studying there.

My favourite memory of Queen Mary is the cultural night which the Pakistan Society organised - we had a boat on the River Thames and I enjoyed the company of people from different nationalities and backgrounds. It was one of my first tastes of the rich multi-cultural environment."

'The best decision of my life'

"I had never experienced such research facilities and standards in my life until studying at Queen Mary. Getting to use these in my research project was the best thing during my course. It was the best decision in my life to study at the prestigious Queen Mary. I had great time studying there and I always encourage my juniors to study there and build a successful career."
