5 January 2026

The SEMS winter graduation ceremony took place in the Great Hall on the Mile End campus on 16 December 2025. The venue was filled with hundreds of SEMS graduates and their families and friends. The largest cohort was made up our MSc students from our 2024-25 cohort, but there many other BEng, MEng and PhD students graduating as well.
During the graduation ceremony David Lee presented Paul Stephen for a QMUL Fellowship in recognition of his work whilst being the Principal of Newham College of Further Education, from 2017 to 2025. In that time, Paul worked closely with SEMS on a number of successful projects, including securing £28million in funding from the Department for Education and Greater London Authority to establish the London City Institute of Technology.
The event was supported by several SEMS staff processing on stage this year celebrate every student as they were announced by Karen Shoop to walk across the platform to be individually congratulated by Wen Wang and Hazel Screen. Angela Jones helped ensure that the whole process ran smoothly as the Procession Manager.
After the graduation ceremony everyone gathered in the Octagon for a champagne reception. All the SEMS staff team would like to congratulate our Winter 2025 graduates.
