Dr Rehan Shah awarded a follow-on renewal of collaborative Engineering Education Research Grant with UCL
7 July 2023
Dr Rehan Shah has been awarded a follow-on renewal collaborative Engineering Education Research Grant through UCL's Centre for Engineering Education to continue working on the cross-institutional interdisciplinary project on community-based placements in engineering education with a team comprising colleagues from UCL including academics from the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Institute of Education, UCL East and professional services staff from the Careers Service.
As part of this follow-on project, Dr Shah and his team will complement and build on the findings of the scoping study project carried out across UK universities such as UCL and QMUL. While the scoping study focused on community-based placements occurring as credit-bearing activities within the curriculum, the follow-on project will expand this definition to include summer internships, mentoring, volunteering and other types of relevant activities. The research agenda co-created with student interns in the scoping study will serve to inform future priority research areas. The study may also be expanded to international settings to investigate best practice methods to compare and contrast them with the UK context.
A short case study report describing this co-creation project can be found on the Queen Mary Academy website.
