Dr Rehan Shah has been awarded a collaborative Engineering Education Research Grant through UCL's Centre for Engineering Education to work on a cross-institutional interdisciplinary project with a team comprising colleagues from UCL including academics from the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Institute of Education, UCL East and professional services staff from the Careers Service.

As part of this co-creational project (featuring student interns), Dr. Shah and his team will aim to generate a comprehensive state-of-the-art review of all aspects of community-based placements within engineering education: how they are initiated and in what contexts, what their advantages and limitations are and their impact on employability and student experience. Qualitative approaches using participatory methods will explore benefits for students at UCL East and QMUL and local community members involved in placements hosted in East London.

The award for this initial scoping study will serve as a foundation for continued collaboration through a proposed follow-on project.
