Bioengineering PDRA Seminar by Sheetal Inamdar & David Shepherd
Date: | Tuesday 4 July 2023 12:00 - 12:30 |
Location: | SEMS Seminar Room & MS Team |
1st Talk Title: Compressive loading of healthy and degraded cartilage and the 3D collagen fibrillar response
Sheetal Inamdar's project is about understanding how the collagen network in cartilage contributes to the tissues mechanical properties both in health and disease. More specifically, I utilise small angle X-ray scattering techniques combined with in-situ mechanics to probe the complex nanoscale mechanisms within the tissue. This combined methodology provides real time information into how the collagen fibrils behave under tissue level loading.
Keywords: Cartilage, Collagen, Small angle x-ray diffraction (SAXD), Nanomechanics, Multi-scale modelling, Biomechanics
2nd Talk Title: Isolating human monocytes from human blood and their subsequent use in investigating osteoclastogenesis
David Shepherd's project is about Calcium Phosphates and the way substituted ions can effect the biological response. I also have an interest in studying collagen scaffolds and the ways these can be manipulated to produce novel structures incorporating biomolecules.
Keywords: Calcium Phosphates, Cell Culture, Collagen Scaffolds
This seminar will be chaired by Sara Naderizadeh.
