Dr Rehan Shah has been featured as part of the University of Westminster's community engaged learning toolkit aimed at empowering academics to design impactful, real-world projects with community partners, enhancing student learning while delivering meaningful social benefit. Practical resources, examples, and guidance make integrating community engagement into teaching both achievable and rewarding.

In conversation with public engagement officer Ms Emily Boldry (formerly from The Brunel Museum and now at the Francis Crick Institute through a long video interview discussion, Dr Rehan Shah unpacks the crucial elements of what constitutes and how to go about implementing successful university-community partnership projects. In the video, Dr Shah draws on his experiences of undertaking community engagement projects funded by the QMUL Centre for Public Engagement which has featured community partners such as the Brunel Museum.

As part of the conversation, Dr Shah and Ms Boldry touch upon a range of topics including working in partnership with community organisations through effective planning and managing of expectations, making community-engaged learning part of students' learning by finding who to contact, establishing clear communication, incorporating flexibility with partners, navigating challenges successfully and ensuring the process aligns with learning outcomes and assessment goals associated with module curricula.

The toolkit will be actively promoted widely to academic educators across UK universities through several disseminations channels including an online discussion event showcasing the toolkit, a pitched article to WonkHE building on some of the other published work on community engaged learning, emails and social media posts via appropriate networks: SL Network, PEP Network, Citizens UK etc. and signposting at events, conferences and book launch events. The full online toolkit (after free registration) is accessible here.
