Jiazhe Zhao was awarded the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 39th Topical Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), held in Natal, Brazil. The conference focused on "The Role of Electrochemistry in Sustainable Energy and the Environment.”

Her standout presentation, titled ‘3D Photoelectrochemical Imaging for the Investigation of Localized Kinetics of Photocatalytic Water Splitting’, introduced a cutting-edge imaging system capable of probing complex porous electrode structures in three dimensions, with high spatial resolution. Jiazhe showcased how this innovative technique could enable localized 3D patterning of photocatalysts and offer new insights into the kinetics of photocatalytic water splitting — a promising approach for sustainable hydrogen production.

Looking ahead, the method also shows great potential for label-free, functional imaging of cells in 3D tissue cultures. Future development aims to adapt the technique for real-time, in-line monitoring of cell signalling events in organ-on-chip platforms, paving the way for impactful applications in biomedical engineering.
