QMCUR students showcase their research at the Industrial Liaison Forum
11 March 2025

Students from the Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research (QMCUR) showcased their research at the Industrial Liaison Forum, with about 30 posters on display, reinforcing the Centre's presence in research dissemination events.
Participating allowed the students to join their more senior peers in sharing their research with academic staff, industrial collaborators, and visitors. Students from first to third year engaged in meaningful discussions, explained their projects, and received valuable feedback from judges and collaborators.
The projects covered a wide range of topics across various engineering and science disciplines, reflecting the diversity and depth of the research activities conducted at QMCUR.
Among all the posters presented, two received Best Poster awards:
• "Squashing Bugs, Not Snakes: Co-creating a Python Toolkit to Develop Students’ Programming Proficiency" by Muhie Al Haimus (second-year Robotics Engineering), Yash Vaghela (second-year Mechanical Engineering), and Ilanthiraiyan Sivagnanamoorthy (third-year Aerospace Engineering), supervised by Dr Rehan Shah. This project contributed to developing a toolkit for teaching Python and troubleshooting common programming errors.
• "Multiaxial Mechanical Characterization of Elastomeric Scar Removal Sheets" by Prapti Shrestha (third-year MEng Biomedical Engineering), supervised by Dr Marco Pensalfini. This research enhances the understanding of widely used medical-grade scar removal sheets by quantifying their deformability using advanced mechanical loading and optical analysis methods. The judges praised Prapti’s ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and engagingly while recognizing the impact of her work.
Besides being of significant academic prestige, these awards highlight the potential of undergraduate students in making meaningful contributions to advancing research activities.
