SEMS students to showcase work at national conferences

Seven SEMS undergraduate students have had their education research projects under the supervision of Dr Rehan Shah selected to represent Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and accepted for presentation at two national student conferences to be held at the University of Westminster in February 2025.
Five students have been selected to present their work as posters at the Student Engagement Conference for the projects:
- ‘Making diversity count’: empowering students through inclusive STEM curricula - Ava Dahlia Belafonte and Allegra Celesia
- 'Squashing bugs not snakes': designing a Python toolkit to develop students’ programming proficiency - Muhie Al-Haimus, Yash Vaghela and Ilanthiraiyan Sivagnanamoorthy
While two students were selected to represent QMUL to disseminate their work through a presentation and a poster at the London Student Sustainability Conference for the project
- Embedding sustainability in mathematics modules - Malmi Mahagamage and Meherun Soud
All of the students are part of the Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research and are presenting on work they have actively undertaken through staff-student co-creation for enhancing education delivery and curriculum development within SEMS across several of Dr Shah's first and second-year undergraduate mathematics modules.
Dr Shah will accompany the whole group of students as they showcase their work for the one-day conference on Wednesday 26th February, which will provide all the students with opportunities to engage in networking and academic professional development for their future careers.
