The latest edition of the Industrial Liaison Forum (ILF) marks the second time QMCUR students have participated in the event, highlighting their growing presence and dedication to advancing research alongside PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers. This consistent engagement reflects not only their commitment but also QMCUR’s incremental progress hosting a diverse range of research topics.

Among the six posters presented—the maximum allowed for undergraduates this time— Arrin Erral Fernandes and Jarifa Tasnim Shah won the prize for best poster with their project titled “Development of Novel Surface Textures to Reduce Aerodynamic Drag,” supervised by Dr Kshitij Sabnis. Other projects presented by QMCUR students included:

  • Jake Seah, D. Carta, D. Hayer, H. Heidari, J.E. Gautrot: “DLP Printing of Chips for Microvascularised Tissue Models”.
  • Limbani Konwani Mdebwe, Salvatore Grasso, Shahad Alfadhli: “Investigating Charging and Discharging Rates of Lithium-Ion Batteries through Graphite Alignment”.
  • Emma Nicolai: “Modelling Orbital Dynamics of Swarm Satellite Constellations”.
  • Barbaros Zeren, Yash Vaghela, Rehan Shah: “‘Sway and Play’: The Mathematics of Playground Swinging”.
  • Muhie Al-Haimus, Allegra Celesia, Rehan Shah: “‘String and Spin’: Investigating the Dynamics of Yo-Yo Tricks”.

These projects demonstrate the breadth of research topics explored within the QMCUR cohort, and highlight the value of research-based education offered at the School of Engineering and Materials Science. QMCUR’s team thanks the ILF organizers for providing this opportunity and the supervisors of the projects to oversee the research activities.
