Diesel injector fouling - could it be due to electrokinetic streaming current?

Hypothetical mechanism of internal diesel injector deposits formation
Hypothetical mechanism of internal diesel injector deposits formation

Our new paper in Fuel investigates the source of internal injector deposits in diesel injectors - a nasty problem that may be the source of a significant chunk of the soot emissions from diesel cars, and not only - NOx and CO2 emissions are also affected.

The nature of the diesel injector deposits suggests one rather unexpected source - the earthing current, a safety measure that protects the engine against sparks produced by a streaming currents carried by the injected fuel (a problem that appears in many other hydraulic devices, not only fuel injectors).

But will this hypothesis stand an experimental test?
