From 1st July 2021, Prof Liz Tanner will take over as Editor in Chief of Journal of Engineering in Medicine, Part H of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Liz takes over from Professor Tony Unsworth FREng of Durham University has edited the journal for over 28 years and now becomes Editor Emeritus.

Liz said "It is a great honour to take over from Tony Unsworth by being Editor in Chief of the Journal of Engineering in Medicine". Liz will be the only female Editor in Chief of any of the 16 parts of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers which were first published in 1847. Engineering in Medicine dates back to the early 1970s and become part of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1989. Liz's first publication was in Engineering in Medicine in 1979 with her status given as "Undergraduate Student" and was based on work done as a summer vacation student at the Oxford Orthopaedic Engineering Centre, where she later became a PhD student.
