Multidisciplinary conference hosted by QMUL

We are proud to announce Queen Mary's Centre for Bioengineering, Blizard Institute and Barts Health NHS Trust are hosting the UK Preterm Birth conference in East London. This two day event is taking place at the Peoples Palace and Graduate Centre at QMUL. There will be 15 themed sessions covering topics on emerging multi-disciplinary disciplines including a panel debate with Fetal Membrane Society, Tommy’s, 3 plenary and 15 keynote presentations, an awards ceremony, and an international saltellite symposium with the President of the Fetal Membrane Society.

Themed sessions include:

  • From AI models to clinically trustworthy tools

  • Big data and systems biology targeting prematurity across the life course

  • Emerging 3D models for pre-clinical disease and therapeutics

  • Clinical management of PPROM

  • Fetal therapy and the use of diagnostics tests

  • Fetal membrane rupture, biomechanics and mechanobiology

  • Tackling climate change

  • Microbiomes, pregnancy and preterm birth

  • Pollution & Pregnancy health

  • The patient experience – Your story

  • Neonatal management and experience

  • Midwifery for preterm birth – Fact & Fiction

  • Perinatal mental health and well-being

  • Virtual cities, health disparities and social policy

There will be opportunities for the audience including midwives and healthcare workers to network with the scientists, clinicians and engineers.

Multidisciplinary fields include:

  • Clinical management of preterm ruptured membranes
  • Recent evidence on the causes of preterm birth such as the effect of fibroids on inflammation
  • The transfer of more than one embryo
  • Diagnostic tests such as cervical length, cervical suture, progesterone, fibronectin and actim partus
  • Management of threatened preterm labour with tocolytics, steroids and magnesium
  • Mode of delivery of a very preterm baby

The abstract submission window will open on 1 May 2026 for thirty days. All attendees will need to register before 1 September 2026 and announcements for the draft conference programme will be made on 31 October 2026.
