On Tuesday 11 February, Year 10 students will work with leading academics and clinicians from QMUL and Barts Health NHS Trust whose research on climate change and women’s health is helping to make positive legal, social and political change.
The aim of the workshop is to combine climate science and creativity by raising awareness on how children exposed to indoor and outdoor pollution are at increased risk of asthma, skin conditions, cardiovascular disease and mental health conditions. Experts from medicine, bioengineering, law, politics and the creative industry will share their expertise and work with students to develop a photographic campaign on how to reduce environmental pollutants and protect our future health. We will explore the impact of pollution on health in 3 areas:
- Air pollution from traffic and vehicle exposure
- Indoor pollution in the home
- Toxic chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics
This workshop gives students a great opportunity to meet people in a range of creative and scientific careers. Some students may wish to create photographs that feature themselves in the images. Others may prefer to be behind the lens or take images which are more abstract. We will be capturing some behind the scenes photographs of the day.
This workshop is funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, Ideas Foundation and Queen Mary's Centre for Public Engagement.
