Dr Catrin Bevan Passes her PhD!
27 October 2026

Many congratulations to Catrin Bevan for successfully passing her PhD viva, with a thesis entitled, " Engineering novel biomimetic microenvironments to guide heterogenous tendon cell differentiation towards organ-chip system development”. Catrin completed her PhD under the supervision of Prof Hazel Screen, with invaluable guidance from Dr Simon Grossemy and Dr Nidal Khatib alongside second supervisor Prof Martin Knight.
The thesis explored mechanisms to drive stem cells towards different tendon cell populations, offering substantial new insights into the design and delivery of next generation tendon-on-a-chip models.
Catrin was examined by Prof Nick Evans from Southampton and Dr Josephine Wu from QMUL, who both commented on the high quality of Catrin’s work.
