Dr Deepshikha delivered the inaugural lecture of the Research, Evaluation and Innovation in STEM Education (REISE) seminar series at King’s College London on 9th September 2026.

Hosted by Dr Helen Coulshed, Associate Vice Dean Education and Senior Lecturer in Chemistry Education from the Department of Chemistry at King’s, the seminar, “Empowering Educators with AI: Responsible Innovation in Feedback and Assessment,” explored how artificial intelligence can support more effective and timely feedback while keeping educators firmly at the centre of academic decision-making.

The presentation focused on a human-centred approach to AI-enabled assessment, where technology supports rather than replaces professional judgement. The discussion considered how responsible AI can improve feedback clarity for students, reduce marking workload and turnaround times for staff, while maintaining appropriate educator oversight.

The seminar attracted significant interest across the higher education sector, with 74 attendees representing 26 universities, and 69% of participants joining from outside King’s College London. Universities represented included Bristol, Durham, Nottingham Trent and Edinburgh, with international participation extending to OTH Regensburg, Karolinska Institute and the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.

The breadth of participation highlights growing sector-wide interest in practical, responsible approaches to AI in assessment and feedback, and reflects SEMS’ contribution to wider conversations about educational innovation and the future of assessment.
