Dr Haixue Yan Awarded Fellowship of the Institute of Physics
22 July 2026

Dr Haixue Yan has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP), one of the highest professional honours awarded by the Institute.
The Fellowship recognises Dr Yan's sustained and internationally recognised contributions to condensed matter physics, particularly his pioneering research on the physics of dielectric and ferroelectric materials. His research has helped establish new scientific principles governing dielectric and ferroelectric materials, advancing the fundamental understanding of structure–property relationships in functional materials. These discoveries have contributed to the development of next-generation technologies for energy-efficient electronics, electrocaloric cooling, sensors, actuators and other advanced functional devices.
Election to this prestigious Fellowship reflects not only Dr Yan's outstanding research achievements but also his leadership within the international physics community through collaborative research, the supervision and mentoring of early-career researchers, editorial service, and his broader contributions to advancing the discipline.
On receiving the Fellowship, Dr Yan said:
"I am deeply honoured to be elected a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my students, postdoctoral researchers, collaborators and colleagues over many years. I look forward to continuing our research into functional materials and exploring new scientific discoveries that address global challenges in sustainable energy and advanced electronics."
