Advance HE features Dr Akinmolayan Taiwo’s blog on AI and student teamwork
27 November 2025

We are proud to share that Advance HE has showcased Dr Folashade Akinmolayan Taiwo’s latest blog, “AI and the future of student teamwork: collaboration or collusion?”
In this timely piece, Dr Akinmolayan Taiwo explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping group work in higher education and highlights that this is offering both exciting opportunities and important challenges. The blog discusses how AI tools can support student collaboration by helping teams generate ideas, overcome communication barriers, and work more inclusively. At the same time, it highlights the potential risks of overreliance on AI, including inequities in participation, the “deskilling” of essential teamwork abilities, and concerns around academic integrity.
The blog emphasises the need for universities to take a proactive, pedagogically informed approach to AI in group work. Dr Akinmolayan Taiwo calls for clearer guidance on ethical use, stronger AI literacy for both staff and students, and assessment practices that encourage transparency and reflection on how AI tools are used within teams.
This work aligns closely with Queen Mary’s commitment to innovative, inclusive, and future-focused education, contributing to ongoing sector conversations about how AI can be integrated responsibly to enhance learning while safeguarding fairness and academic standards.
