SEMS Showcases Engineering Education Innovation at the EERN 2025 Conference
29 July 2025

Dr Mouna Chetehouna from Queen Mary University of London’s School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS), and a member of the CREME centre, recently shared insights into advancements in engineering education at the UK and Ireland Engineering Education Research Network Annual Symposium, EERN 2025 conference held at Manchester University, July 2025.
Dr Chetehouna presented her paper, "Revolutionising Engineering Education: Authentic Learning, Industry-Driven Assessment, and Global Impact," co-authored with Dr Eldad Avital. The paper highlights one of the many ways SEMS is preparing its engineering students with the skills needed for today's job market. The presented research discussed a shift from traditional assessment methods towards an approach that focuses on practical expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration, independent learning, and assessments geared towards both research and employability. This model aims to produce engineers who are not only knowledgeable but also practical and adaptable.
Dr Chetehouna demonstrated the success of this approach, sharing the achievements of SEMS’s MEng and MSc students who have been part of the project. Their progress showed the positive impact of these educational methods in developing future engineering talent. This presentation reflects SEMS's dedication to providing a sound and relevant engineering education, helping its graduates be well-prepared for their careers.
