The UKACM 2025 Conference on Computational Mechanics, held from 23rd to 25th April 2025 at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), was a major success. Co-chaired by Dr Wei Tan (QMUL) and Professor Emilio Martínez-Pañeda (University of Oxford), the event brought together a vibrant community of researchers to share the latest developments in computational mechanics.

This year’s conference welcomed 148 delegates representing 14 countries and 64 universities. The impressive programme featured 115 talks, covering a broad range of topics across solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, multi-physics modelling, and data-driven approaches.

The conference was officially opened by Professor James Busfield (FREng), Deputy Head of the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary, who delivered a warm and inspiring welcome address.

Delegates enjoyed a distinguished line-up of plenary speakers: Professor Neil Sandham, Professor Mark Parsons, Professor Catherine O’Sullivan, and Dr Paulo R. Refachinho de Campos. Their lectures offered deep insights into aerospace engineering, supercomputing, geotechnical engineering, and advanced computational methods.

The School Lecture Series featured three exceptional speakers — Professor Angela Busse, Dr Tim Hageman, and Dr Burgiede Liu — who shared their expertise on fluid dynamics, numerical methods, and data-driven material modelling.

The organising team expressed their deep appreciation to Professor Jelena Ninic, President of UKACM, and Professor Ruben Sevilla, former President of UKACM, for their ongoing guidance and support in the lead-up to the conference.

Gratitude was also extended to the mini-symposium organisers and session chairs, whose efforts ensured the smooth running of the technical sessions, as well as to a fantastic team of 15 volunteers — Hongye Guo, Jie Yang, Luke Webb, Yikun Zhang, Wenqi Wang, Afni Restasari, Devender Kumar, Yuancheng Yang, Lianyuan Cheng, Rui Mao, Eisha Hashmi, Yang Liu, Jinlong Fu, Mariam Ashimi, and Leshan Weeramundage — for their tireless support behind the scenes.

The Organising Committee — Dr Marco Pensalfini, Dr Nikos Bempedelis, Dr Haibao Liu, and Dr Chinnapat Panwisawas — was also recognised for their contributions to the success of the event, alongside the Scientific Committee members — Professor James Busfield, Professor Sergey Karabasov, Professor Vassili Toropov, and Dr Jens-Dominik Mueller — for their scientific leadership.

The conference concluded after three inspiring days of scientific exchange, lively discussions, and enjoyable social events. Attention now turns to next year’s conference, with the UKACM community looking forward to UKACM 2026, to be held in Liverpool.
