New 12-week workshop on Econometrics introduced
24 February 2025

Dr Jae-Hwan Park has introduced a 12-week Econometrics Workshop for MSc students in SEMS, primarily designed for MSc Engineering Management students.
Held every Thursday from 9 AM to 11 AM in Semester B, these sessions provide a hands-on learning experience in econometrics using STATA or R. Through problem-solving with real-world data, students gain practical insights into key econometric concepts, effectively bridging theory with industry applications.
The workshops build students’ confidence in data analysis, equipping them with essential skills for performance measurement, decision-making under uncertainty, and trend analysis. Jae-Hwan and PhD student Davide Carta adopt an interactive approach, encouraging active participation and helping students develop a strong foundation in statistical modelling and decision-making. By mastering econometric techniques, students not only enhance their expertise in engineering management but also improve their career prospects in analytics-driven industries.
The 12-week programme has also attracted students from outside the MSc Engineering Management cohort, further highlighting its broad relevance and impact. In addition, students from other MSc programmes in SEMS are actively participating in the workshop.
Students have appreciated the new knowledge gained so far, saying:
“The workshop was an excellent opportunity to deepen our understanding of data analysis, econometrics, and regression models. The hands-on training in STATA software provided valuable practical skills that will be directly applicable to some classmates' research and academic work.”
“I find the Econometrics workshops on Thursday mornings highly valuable. I am gaining essential new concepts in econometric analysis, which contribute to both my academic development and practical understanding of data-driven decision-making.”
