The latest doctoral alumni from the Soft Matter Group at QMUL, Dr Ruhi Patel, has pulled off a first by actually graduating from Cambridge University. Ruhi is both a SEMS alumni having come top of her year as a BEng Materials student back in 2018 after which she completed a postgraduate degree at Cambridge University. For her doctoral research she undertook a project supervised at both universities on “Material Selection and Manufacture for a Polymer Heart Valve Application.”

The materials characterisation was principally done at QMUL and the valve design and manufacture were done at Cambridge. Her supervisors were Prof Geoff Moggridge from Cambridge and Prof James Busfield from QMUL. Both joined Ruhi for the graduation celebration at King’s College in Cambridge. Ruhi is currently a PDRA at Cambridge University.
