Driving risk assessment in autonomous vehicles: Queen Mary academic leads a new working group
21 October 2024

In a crucial step towards establishing a comprehensive framework for driving risk assessment, aiming to improve safety in autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, the Kick-Off Meeting for the IEEE P3439™ Standard Development: 'Guide for Driving Risk Assessment Procedure in SAE Level 1 to 3' has been successfully organised.
Dr Xinwei Wang from Queen Mary University of London School of Engineering and Materials Science has taken on a key role in this project, serving as the Secretary of the IEEE P3439 Working Group. Dr Wang’s contributions, together with the leadership of Zirui Li from TU Dresden and Xiaolin He from TU Delft, will be essential as the group progresses towards setting this important standard. Their expertise will help ensure significant advancements in driving risk assessment.
Special thanks are extended to Prof Konstantinos Ampountolas from University of Thessaly and Yiru Jiao from TU Delft for their insightful presentations, which laid a solid foundation for upcoming discussions.
The initiative is also in the process of assembling a strong team of voting and contributing members. For those interested in advancing driving safety standards, this is an excellent opportunity to get involved.
The next meeting is scheduled for January 2025, with continued efforts to shape the future of driving risk assessment and safety.
