Professor Dr Aqif Anwar Chaudhry has recently become the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, in Lahore, Pakistan. Aqif started his research career at the Department of Materials at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) as a PhD student.

Professor Chaudhry’s PhD, on 'Continuous Hydrothermal Flow Synthesis and Characterisation of Nano-Bioceramics and their Rapid Consolidation Using Spark Plasma Sintering' was supervised by Professor Jawwad Darr (now at UCL) and was completed in 2008.

From QMUL, Prof Chaudhry joined the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM) at COMSATS University Islamabad (Lahore Campus) as an Assistant Professor being promoted to Full Professor in 2022.

At the IRC in Biomedical Materials at COMSATS University Islamabad he continued his work on biomaterials for bone repair and regeneration that he started at QMUL. His research includes high throughput discovery of biomaterials, bone regenerative ceramic monoliths and composites and multifunctional biomaterials for enhanced tissue regeneration. As Head of the IRC in Biomedical Materials Prof Chaudhry led the development of a well-equipped translational R&D ecosystem which is well connected to national and international stakeholders and helped his team of translational scientists to commercialise their biomaterials research and its applications in patients.

Professor Dr Aqif Anwar Chaudhry said "I am very pleased to have been entrusted the responsibility of leading University of Education which is very productive and a diverse, multiple-campus and multiple-city based university."

He aims to focus on academic excellence, translational research and development, internationalization, networking and social service, enhancing the student experience and sustainability.

Professor Colin Bailey is looking forward to visiting the University of Education and increasing QMUL’s collaboration with them.
