On Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th of September, the Colorado School of Mines - Advanced steel processing and products research centre (ASPPRC) held a 40th anniversary celebration. The invited Prof Sir Harry Bhadeshia to give a lecture entitled 'Visionary Steels'.

The lecture was attended by a huge audience and covered sustainability in the context of steels, regeneration of human-destroyed coral reefs, how we owe our existence to rust and phase transformations which improve quality of life.

Oh Joon Kwon from AstraZeneca, Dr Anil Sachdev, David Matlock and George Krauss also gave afternoon lectures before Harry.

Harry said "it was an amazing event showing the huge knowns and unknowns about steel and how both young and old, industry and academia, are working towards a better life enhanced by steel."
