Shafique defended his PhD thesis on June 26, 2023, and passed the viva with minor amendments. The title of his thesis is "Investigating the Influence of Dopants and Processing Conditions on Low-Temperature Degradation of Zirconia Ceramics for Dental Applications.''

Shafique’s research focused on understanding the aging process of Zirconia ceramics and explored the use of Terahertz (THz), a non-destructive testing method, to characterize phase transformations in Zirconia. His study delved into various possibilities to gain insights into the aging mechanisms of Zirconia ceramics.

Shafique was supervised by Dr Haixue Yan.
