James Busfield elected to Royal Academy of Engineering
22 September 2020
The Royal Academy of Engineering has announced the 50 new Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) and 3 International Fellows. James Busfield, Professor of Materials, Director of Industrial Engagement in the School of Engineering and Material Science and Yang Hao (School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science) have been elected.
James's nomination says "Professor Busfield has spent 25 years working with industrial partners to develop a wide range of innovative elastomer products and improving the performance of elastomer materials. This includes helping tyre companies such as Bridgestone improve the fuel efficiency of their tyres or oil & gas companies such as Schlumberger to create more robust deep-sea sealing systems.
All of this is coupled with a passion for preparing the next generation of graduate engineers to work in real world situations using problem-based learning approaches, for which he was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2009."
