Professor Hazel Screen has been awarded a Dunhill Medical Trust grant of £190,000, to investigate the causes of age-related tendon injury.

Tendon injuries are extremely painful and highly debilitating, and become increasingly common as we age, where they can dramatically affect quality-of-life. Developing treatments is of the utmost importance, but scientists have been unsuccessful to date, primarily owing to poor understanding of how tendinopathy starts and develops and why it becomes more common as we age. This project aims to establish what causes tendinopathy and why it occurs so often in the elderly, paving the way for future studies to develop treatments appropriately targeted to the causes they identify.
