Yesterday after a rigorous selection process, our graduates secured two of the three national prizes awarded annually by the Institute of Materials, Mining and Minerals for graduates of accredited materials courses. These awards are given to students based upon their academic performance assessed in combination with other qualities and achievements which suggest a promising professional career.
Nanayaa Hughes-Brittain, who has stayed at QM after graduation to study for a PhD in materials, was awarded the R H Craven Award for being the best graduate with excellence in polymer materials. Her final year project was supervised by Kees Bastiaansen, Chris Reynolds and Ton Peijs. Lovoni Rahman, who is currently studying for a masters degree in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial, was awarded the A T Green Award for being the best graduate with excellence in ceramic materials. Her final year project was supervised by Ihtesham Rehman.
James Busfield comments, “It is 8 years since a graduate from QM won any of these national awards and so it is particularly pleasing that we have won two this year. Both Nanayaa and Lovoni fully deserve their prizes. It just goes to show the high calibre of our materials programme graduates from last year.”
