All the new undergraduate students in Materials (Foundation, 1st, 2nd and 3rd year entry) joined the 2nd year undergraduates in a fun Problem Based Learning (PBL) activity in Week 7 this semester. This PBL was championed by James Busfield and assisted by Nigel d’Mello. All the students where split into 18 groups and each faced the challenge of designing a bungee that would bounce a melon as close to the ground and then rebound to the highest possible height. The wining design by Group 14 was outstanding with the group getting to within 2 cm of the ground and rebounding to a great height. Congratulations to all the members in Group 14. In addition, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the PhD students and teaching assistants who helped us with this activity.
