Date: Wed 5 May 2021, 14:00 - 15:00

Location: Microsoft Teams…

Recent years, we witness the tendency that robots are walking out of labs and factories and getting into our life. Service robots are working in the hospital and taking care of the patients. They can grasp an object then deliver to a patient. They even can help and lift the patients and put them in the bed. Collaborative robots (Cobots) are working with workers side by side and helping them perform cumbersome tasks in order that workers can focus on thinking and decision. Agricultural robots are working in the farm help farmers planting and reaping. All above mentioned robots need contact/touch/interact with external environment (objects or people) to understand what they are touching? And what actions they should take given by the “feeling” from the touching? This sounds really trivial tasks for our human, but definitely not a simple process for robots.

In this talk, Dr Li will introduce one important topic in “Tactile Robotics” domain, - tactile information. It was recently published in TRO and talked about how to define the tactile processing from the interaction perspective. Following the conceptual introduction, he will present part of tactile applications that he has done in Bielefeld in the past years - tactile servoing, grasping and in-hand manipulation. Finally he will briefly report the progress of on-going DEXMAN project.
