Two new Research Assistants have started within the new School of Engineering and Materials Science within the last month.

Alan Leong took up the new post on 15 January 2007 and will be working on a research project under the supervision of Professor Paul Hogg. This project is funded under EPSRC’s SUPERGEN V initiative. His role in the consortium is to identify new composite materials for present and future wind turbine generators that will produce real cost saving and operating efficiency improvements.

Ms Oto-ola Akanji took up a research assistant appointment in the School on 1 February and will be working with Prof David Lee on the research funded by the Wellcome Trust, 'Interleukin-1B and dynamic compressive strain influence the release of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 from articular chondrocyte sub-populations via distinct but interacting intracellular signalling pathways'.

Many people will know both Alan and Oto-ola already because they have both been within the two former departments for the last 5 years.
