The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining has awarded the Kroll Medal and Prize to Professor J.R.G.Evans in recognition of significant contributions which have enhanced the scientific, industrial and technological understanding of materials chemistry. Professor Evans says "Independent Materials Departments have a unique research history and character. It is an honour and a privilege to lead a research team in the first autonomous Materials Department to be formed in the United Kingdom and for the team to be recognised by the Institute for its work."
