Last week, we were delighted to welcome over 650 new students to the School of Engineering and Materials Science – making this one of our biggest Welcome Weeks to date.

Welcome Week activities included the Welcome Fair, featuring stalls from local businesses and student societies, alongside a special Wellness Fair that introduced students to the wide range of support available to boost their wellbeing.

Engineering and Materials Science students also took part in our Opportunities Fair, where they connected with careers and placements staff, explored Student Societies such as Formula Student, the Biomedical Engineering Society, Aurora, and the Electronics Society, tried out spike ball with their Student Support Officers, learnt about part-time work from Student Ambassadors, and met guests from the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, and more.

Other student activities ranged from welcome talks and initial meetings with advisors, to treasure hunts, games and socials, as well as a taster session for the Ignite Women in Engineering programme, study tips sessions and internships and placements guidance.

We hope our new students are starting to feel settled-in, as they dive into the first week of classes this week!
