PhD student Rory Bennett has been awarded the Worshipful Company of Engineers Mercia Award – a prestigious and competitive national award for PhD students in biomedical engineering. The award gives a bursary of £1000 towards the cost of postgraduate research in medical engineering.
Rory’s doctoral research focuses on developing a potential prostate cancer screening technique using AI and surface-based ultrasound scans. His work has been widely recognised, with multiple conference presentations, a published research paper, and two more research papers currently under review.
Rory attended the Awards Dinner at Goldsmiths Hall in the City of London along with Prof Zion Tse, Prof Liz Tanner and Prof Karin Hing. The evening included speeches from Masters, Wardens and Clerks of the Worshipful Company of Engineers as well as a meal and awards ceremony.
“It was a really special evening, with a number of high-profile guests from across industry and engineering” said Prof Tse.
