12 March 2025

Dr Sara Hajikazemi has contributed to the latest report from the Association for Project Management (APM), which explores key trends shaping the future of the project management profession.
This third cycle of reflection situates project management within the broader context of historical industrial revolutions while critically assessing its current trajectory through APM’s initiatives and member discussions.
The report offers ten key recommendations, including redefining the profession’s role, enhancing leadership development, refining certification frameworks, and integrating commercial and sustainability competencies. It also underscores the importance of strategic positioning, corporate alignment, and modularity in infrastructure projects. Furthermore, it calls for research on mission-level change and the role of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in shaping the profession’s future.
