The marvellous academic journey of QMCUR in India
24 February 2025

Representing the Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research (QMCUR) and the SEMS staff dedicated to enhancing education, Dr Giuseppe Viola took an academic visit in India, accepting an invitation from his collaborators, Gene Editors of the Future at the University of Westminster, as an invited speaker at the 2nd International Conference on Translational Research in Biomedical Sciences, hosted by Sathyabama University in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The conference featured a session on the Vertically Integrated Programme, focused on education, where Giuseppe delivered a presentation titled "Promoting the Student-to-Researcher Transition at the Queen Mary Centre for Undergraduate Research". His talk highlighted the pedagogical framework being developed for this purpose, and was well received by the audience, attracting significant interest from the participants.
QMCUR’s journey was further enriched by an unexpected visit to Kongunadu Arts and Science College in Coimbatore, where Giuseppe addressed a large group of students in a session hosted by the senior management team of the institute.
This experience provided valuable insights and deep reflections for further strengthening QMCUR’s structure and inspiring new ideas for future educational initiatives.
Special thanks and acknowledgments go to all staff members who have fully embraced QMCUR’s spirit, as well as to the students whose substantial contributions continue to validate the methodologies being implemented. Their work enables QMCUR to showcase its impact in academic contexts and contribute to highlight the unique educational opportunities offered at Queen Mary University.
