Design Innovation and Creative Engineering programme introduces placement year
2 October 2024

The Design Innovation and Creative Engineering (DICE) programme now includes the option for students to take an Industrial Experience Placement year as part of their degree.
Students secure placements by applying through the competitive recruitment processes which usually involve a CV, application, psychometrics tests, assessment centres and interviews.
Year-long placements are a fantastic opportunity for students to develop work-related skills, gain experience within a specific role, company or industry, and sometimes students secure a graduate role for when they finish their degree.
Over 30 SEMS students each year complete industry placements across a wide variety of employers including GSK, Rolls Royce, Airbus, Rail Delivery Group, BMW and Siemens Mobility.
Students will benefit from the support of Helen Green, SEMS Placement Officer, who provides drop in sessions starting with reviewing CVs through supporting applications, as well as visiting them on their placements.
“Without this official Industrial Experience year, previous DICE students have had to interrupt studies for mid-degree placements, including a L'Oreal internship, so we're delighted that this year was approved, to meet student demand.” said Programme Director Karen Shoop.
