Queen Mary Engineering programmes re-accredited by Institution of Mechanical Engineers
30 September 2024
Following a rigorous review process, 10 of Queen Mary’s Engineering and Materials Science programmes have been re-accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE):
- Aerospace Engineering BEng & MEng
- Advanced Aeronautical Engineering and Space Systems MSc
- Biomedical Engineering BEng & MEng
- Three Biomedical Engineering MSc programmes
- Mechanical Engineering BEng & MEng
- Advanced Mechanical Engineering MSc
- Sustainable Energy Engineering BEng & MEng
- Sustainable Energy Systems MSc
Three programmes also received IMechE accreditation for the first time:
- Robotics Engineering BEng & MEng (backdated to all cohorts who started their degrees from 2018 onwards)
- Advanced Robotics MSc (backdated to all cohorts who started their degrees from 2018 onwards)
- Aerospace Structures and Materials MSc (backdated to all cohorts who started their degrees from 2019 onwards)
Accreditation demonstrates relevance to industry, and that programmes meet standards set by the Engineering Council of the UK. This accreditation also helps students gain the academic experience they need to pursue Chartered Engineer status with the IMechE.
In addition to accreditation by IMechE, our Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering programmes are also accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). Our Biomedical programmes are also accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, IOM3 and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, IPEM.
Some employers will only or preferentially recruit graduates from accredited degrees, so this further equips our students for employment in industry.
